About The Position

The Assistant Director will coordinate and supervise all aspects of the Career & Community Services unit including new project/partnership development, grant & contract development and management (exp. SEAG and SSEH), program compliance, and budget oversight for SBCTC basics needs funding options, as well as, coordinating coverage for our co-location efforts at WorkSource Pierce. This position supports the mission of the College by supporting students transitioning from education to employment; including but is not limited to developing, and maintaining relationships with local community, business/industry, faculty and staff, and students. This position assists students who are seeking employment and/or resource services. This position is responsible for developing, facilitating, and delivering career services for CPTC students, including career content, job fairs, career events, and coordination with employers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field; social services; higher education; public administration or a similar field.
  • Administrative experience creating, implementing, and managing projects, grants and contracts including budget oversight/reconciliation.
  • Three years working directly with students and/or customers.
  • One year experience advising students on program options.
  • One year experience navigating basic needs resources.
  • Working knowledge of Workforce system resources (including but not limited to WorkSource, Workforce funding sources).
  • One year of program/service development and implementation within the last three years.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Resourceful problem solver.
  • Awareness of local employment market.
  • Experience with interactive social media processes and internet/electronic marketing.
  • Proficient with technology to include Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams.

  • Master's degree in related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain policies for the Basic Needs funding programs regarding intake, retention, and transition services.
  • Implement all grants, state allocations, contracts, and partnerships policies and standards.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments across campus, including Division Deans, Student Services, and faculty, to plan, implement, and monitor basic needs allocations and student emergency funding initiatives.
  • Represent the college and foster community connections by attending various local, regional, and state meetings connected to the Career & Community Service programs/initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain effective working partnerships with multiple stakeholders, including community partner agencies and prospective employers.
  • Collaborate with WorkSource partners to organize information sessions and workshops to provide information about classes, programs, and education/training/career opportunities delivered through the WorkSource Pierce One-Stop.
  • Provide leadership and exercise independent judgment on behalf of the College while overseeing co-located staff connected to Worksource Pierce.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with community/business/industry partners and College faculty/staff to better assist students seeking employment.
  • Develop internships/externships.
  • Regular participation in community partner activities and events to market the College and CPTC Career & Community Services.
  • Discuss career interests as they relate to the job market.
  • Teach students to access and use various career resources such as Handshake, WorkSource Pierce, CareerBridge, WIOS, etc.
  • Respond to potential and current student inquiries for information about career pathway planning and resources.
  • Respond to Common Referral Tool/211 inquiries for CPTC for educational resources/information.
  • Serve as backup to Workforce Eligibility staff and provide information on funding options, eligibility criteria, and application process completion.
  • Maintain routine attendance at WorkSource Pierce sites 2-3 days per week to represent Pierce County colleges.
  • Coordinate and facilitate career preparation, job searching, cover letter, resume, etc., workshop efforts campus-wide.
  • Create and implement an annual calendar of events and informal career services activities such as job fairs, employer roundtables, industry spotlights, resume workshops, soft skill topics, etc.
  • Work with the Director/Dean to create a yearly budget for Basic Needs/grant allocations.
  • Manage budget spend-downs monthly.
  • Complete necessary state/local budget revisions as needed.
  • Work closely with departments across campus to identify funding needs.
  • Research job market trends and share relevant info via the web, Handshake, student messaging, etc.
  • Attend state/local meetings, job fairs, and national conferences.
  • Develop methods for tracking and reporting student outcomes and satisfaction quarterly.
  • Document accomplishments and prepare outcome reports.
  • Develop and maintain career services guides, CCS outreach/marketing materials, web-based resources, schedules, forms, publications, and webpages ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accessibility.
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities, staying current on issues and trends in career services and local/national employment.
  • Attend staff, department, and divisional meetings; participate in campus-wide events and functions.
