The Assistant Director of Buildings and Grounds is responsible for managing all areas of the buildings and grounds department at Randolph College. This role ensures that all maintenance projects and activities align with the college's mission, adhere to budget guidelines, and meet set completion dates. The Assistant Director assists in supervising employees and coordinates activities to maintain the campus's electrical, heating, cooling, domestic water, sewage disposal, alarm, and locking/keying systems. The position requires effective collaboration with outside vendors, contractors, regulatory officials, and college constituents, fostering a service-oriented environment to meet customer needs efficiently and professionally.

  • Manage all areas of the buildings and grounds department.
  • Ensure maintenance projects meet college needs within budget and deadlines.
  • Supervise employees and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Work effectively with outside vendors and contractors.
  • Maintain awareness of customer needs and foster a service-oriented attitude.
  • Keep the Director of Building and Grounds informed on progress and issues.
  • Maintain duties of the Director in their absence.
  • Advise on building system issues and technical matters.
  • Assist in assessing building systems campus-wide.
  • Manage repair, maintenance, and special projects across campus.
  • High school diploma
  • Valid Virginia driver's license
  • Vocational education or training in utilities systems and related work
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance environment
  • Solid skills in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Scheduler
  • Fundamental knowledge of budget creation and tracking
  • Understanding of electrical, plumbing, and construction systems
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and schematics
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • 3-5 years of maintenance supervisory experience in a higher education or K-12 environment
