About The Position

The purpose of this position is to supervise personnel in the Office of Admissions, to provide leadership for the daily functions of the department, and to provide management and expertise for the information system modules supporting these functions. The Assistant Director oversees the Testing Center and placement process to ensure that the College follows Minnesota State policies. This role oversees 2 full-time professional staff as well as work direction and leadership for all functions of the Admissions department, and in the absence of the Director, this position will assume supervisory duties of all staff in the department. This position must provide complicated, specialized information regarding policies and procedures, as well as exceptional service to external customers in high pressure, high volume situations in compliance with the guidelines, policies, and procedures established by state and federal regulations, Minnesota State, and Saint Paul Community and Technical College’s faculty and administration.

Requirements

  • Two years of relevant experience in student services, admissions/enrollment, and/or orientation (A Bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • Skill and experience in computer-based technology, preferably in an integrated student information system.
  • Strong human relations skills sufficient to effectively lead and engage staff, timely address concerns, mentor, and coach for optimal performance.
  • Strong writing skills to create documents and student correspondence in a clear, concise, and professional tone.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize projects and keep multiple deadlines.
  • Evidence of a strong and clear commitment to students with diverse perspectives and from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Testing Center and College’s placement process
  • Lead, supervise, and direct department and contract personnel, including but not limited to hiring, coaching and developing, promoting, rewarding, assigning and reviewing work, directing work, approving transfers, disciplining, suspending, discharging, and adjusting grievances to ensure that staff are skilled and available as needed, collective bargaining agreements and Minnesota State policies and procedures are implemented and appropriately enforced, and projects are staffed correctly to meet deadlines and stay within budget.
  • Plan and direct the daily operational functions of the Admissions Office to maintain competent service levels and department functionality.
  • Serve as a backup to the International Student Coordinator and the F1 student program
  • Perform other duties as assigned, such as committee involvement and process improvement analysis, to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and to maintain the reputation of the organization and department as viable business partners.
