Together with the Department Chair and Senior Administrative Director forms the leadership team for the OBH Laboratory Department and is directly responsible for the overall Point of Care testing services.
Participate in OBH and departmental qualify improvement initiatives.
Complies and assures proper documentation with all established standards, including CLIA, NYSDOH, CAP, FDA, JC, and OBH policies and procedures
Plans, organizes and evaluates the daily operation, staffing needs, and monitors daily/Monthly quality control
Provides technical support and operational leadership to the laboratory staff by communicating and guiding toward achieving department goals and objectives
Develops standard operating procedures to ensure that lab equipment and instrumentation are in good repair and kept current with respect to cleaning, preventive maintenance, calibration, and inspection
Ensures the performance and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation requirements are met
Evaluates training needs and competencies of staff and conducts training accordingly, including other relevant hospital training requirements
Assures quality control and proficiency testing is performed
Performs review of patient test results and quality reports
Evaluates department problems and recommends resolution strategies
Develops, writes, maintains and implements appropriate procedure manuals, policies and competency tools
Works with laboratory leadership to improve systems to support the patient testing process
Coordinates with LIS and IT to ensure that all appropriate lab instrumentation is interfaced
Performs payroll duties as required
Ensures and maintains adequate supplies for department
Coordinates with the System Quality Manager to ensure that all regulatory standards are met
Demonstrate flexibility to meet business demand.
If applicable, the individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials.

Bachelor’s Degree required.
Relevant experience and authority to provide effective quality leadership as well as experience in regulatory requirements.
Strong administrator skills required.
Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare systems relevant to this position.
NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
Consistent with a high density, high acuity patient environment.
Position may require prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
