About The Position

The Assistant Director for the Graduate Student At Large (GSAL) Programs at the University of Chicago is a pivotal role that involves managing the daily operations of the GSAL program. This position reports directly to the Director of GSAL and is responsible for enhancing the program's services through effective administration, student engagement, outreach, and admissions processes. The Assistant Director will play a crucial role in advising both new and current students, ensuring they have the necessary support to succeed in their academic endeavors. In this role, the Assistant Director will actively reach out to students who have not enrolled in classes for two or more academic quarters, gathering information and providing intensive coaching to facilitate their re-enrollment in University of Chicago classes. The position requires a thorough review of admissions applications, conducting interviews, and managing the onboarding process for new students. The Assistant Director will also maintain accurate records of applicants and their progress, ensuring that all necessary information is documented and accessible. The Assistant Director will facilitate student registration meetings, support students through one-on-one and group advising sessions, and communicate effectively with various university stakeholders regarding admissions and registration inquiries. Additionally, the role includes leading wellness coaching workshops, collaborating with Student Affairs for programmatic cohesion, and monitoring students' academic progress to provide timely interventions when necessary. The Assistant Director will also be responsible for creating and updating the GSAL/GSALB Admissions and Program Playbook, which outlines all procedures related to admissions, academic advising, and programming. This position requires a proactive approach to process improvements and collaboration with colleagues to enhance the overall student experience. The Assistant Director will advocate for both the programs and the students, ensuring that their unique needs are met while aligning with the university's mission and values.
