About The Position

Woodruff Arts Center employees play an integral role in creating and supporting great art and education initiatives at the nation’s third largest arts center. Comprised of three Art Partners—Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and High Museum of Art—there’s a role for everyone at The Woodruff. Reports to: HMA Deputy Director Advancement FLSA: United States of America (Exempt) Employment Status: Regular/Full time The Assistant Director of Foundation and Government Relations leads strategic management of the Museum's relationships with foundations and government entities to maximize philanthropic investments. This role involves crafting innovative proposals, cultivating funder relationships, and coordinating with leadership and staff to meet funding goals for exhibitions, collections, and education programs. This role supervises one direct report, the Senior Coordinator of Grants. WORK SCHEDULE Monday – Friday Some weekends and after hours may be required for events

Requirements

  • Exceptional writing, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Leadership and organizational capabilities to manage complex goals.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, revenue forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years in foundation/government relations, grant writing, or related fundraising experience.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Museum staff, members, volunteers and donors.
  • Ability to compute rates and percentages and to present information in report form, prepare and maintain budget
  • The job requires a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and frequent use of hands.
  • Light lifting (up to 10 pounds) may occasionally be necessary.
  • The work environment is generally quiet to moderate in noise level.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Create and execute strategies to maintain and increase foundation and government support. Identify and understand opportunities to match the Museum's priorities (e.g., special exhibitions, permanent collection, collections care, and education programs) with funding objectives.
  • Portfolio Management: Manage communication and strategies for current and prospective funders. Oversee a calendar of deadlines for all proposals, reports, and inquiries to ensure the highest quality narrative and financial submissions.
  • Proposal Writing: Draft compelling proposals, reports, letters, strategy memos and fundraising materials. Prepares grants in support of specific exhibitions, scholarly publications, collection/conservation efforts, K-12 education programs, adult public programs, programs for seniors, staff positions, free admission days, general operating support, and special projects.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with Museum and Woodruff Arts Center leadership on grants and fundraising opportunities. Act as a primary liaison and working closely with directors, curators, education leadership, and key staff to develop innovative proposals and strategies.
  • Budgeting: Regularly update revenue projections for the annual budget. Present accurate timely financial reports to funders.
  • Generate accurate monthly and foundation revenue reports.
  • Manages grant coding, tracking, and reporting processes.
  • Works collaboratively with the CFO to ensure accurate financial management of grants.
  • Provide assistance for events like the Wine Auction and other assigned tasks.
