Assistant Directors of Advising within the College of Arts and Sciences' Tykeson Hall Hub oversee assigned divisional related grouping(s) of CAS majors and minors, and supervise a small group of academic advisors. In close collaboration with the Senior Director and Associate Director, the Assistant Director will work with departmental, program and advising leaders to carry out timely, accurate, holistic academic advising and career-related support. Assistant Directors work alongside advisors in advising and supporting students, develop strong referral practices and promote dissemination of information around advising best practices. Assistant Directors must be able to work with and guide advising practices around the needs of a diverse student population, to include first generation, low income, underrepresented, international, student veterans, first year and transfer students. Additionally, the position must guide advising practices around the needs of re-entry/reinstated students, students in crisis, and students experiencing academic difficulty. Assistant Directors must exhibit collaborative leadership and collegiality in a large team environment, actively creating a welcoming, supportive, inclusive, and accessible student-centered atmosphere. The role of the Assistant Director requires proactive communication and outreach to a variety of college departments, campus partners and service offices on campus; anticipating the needs of supervisees and students is important to support this outreach and articulate needs for resolution of challenges and/or barriers to student success.
