About The Position

The position is within the Enrollment Management division, specifically in the Office of Financial Aid. The primary function is to advise and counsel students, parents, and other interested parties regarding financial aid programs. The role includes verifying student files in accordance with federal and institutional requirements, processing financial aid appeals, and managing projects related to financial aid programs. The position also involves conducting financial aid and financial literacy presentations both on and off campus, and participating in the growth and development of the department. The role may require working nights and weekends during peak enrollment seasons and for events hosted by campus partners. There is an exposure to highly confidential information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3-5 years of related financial aid experience.
  • Demonstrated record of responsible and successful work in financial aid.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state aid programs, processes, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and comfort utilizing various computer technologies and federal electronic programs.
  • Experience with PowerFaids and Workday preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in the interpretation of office policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and counsel students, parents, and other interested parties regarding financial aid programs, eligibility criteria, application procedures, and the aid awarding process.
  • Review student aid applications to determine eligibility for financial aid in accordance with federal and university guidelines.
  • Utilize PowerFaids in conjunction with Workday and federal and state computer programs to track financial aid applicants and administer aid programs.
  • Educate students and parents about financial aid options and identify alternative funding sources as needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of changing federal aid regulations and processes through reading, conference attendance, and engagement within the financial aid professional community.
  • Adhere to FERPA and confidentiality regulations.
  • Serve as Counselor of the Day on a rotating schedule.
  • Review and adjust financial aid awards due to overawards, verification, change of enrollment status, etc.
  • Verify student files in accordance with federal and institutional requirements.
  • Review and process financial aid appeals.
  • Manage projects related to the management of financial aid programs and collaborate with other offices on campus.
  • Conduct financial aid and financial literacy presentations in various formats.
  • Participate in university recruitment events, open houses, and guidance counselor programs.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors concerning departmental and university matters.
  • Promote an image of efficiency and courtesy throughout the university community.
  • Participate in departmental staff meetings as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
