The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Financial Aid Assistant Director to oversee the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while serving as a liaison for the School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, and School of Optometry. The Assistant Director will be the primary point of contact for these schools, participating in professional school interviews, orientations, and various committees to enhance the financial aid experience for students. In addition to administrative duties, the Assistant Director will process scholarships and student loans specifically for health professional schools. This includes providing personal counseling and guidance to students and their families regarding financial assistance programs. The role requires the processing of updates and changes to financial aid awards and disbursements based on student and program needs. The Assistant Director will also conduct financial aid presentations during undergraduate and graduate program orientations, as well as at various UAB events, ensuring that students are well-informed about their financial aid options. To maintain compliance and effectiveness in this role, the Assistant Director must stay updated on federal regulations by attending regular training sessions, conferences, and maintaining communication with other financial aid professionals. Additional responsibilities include preparing the new year setup for cost of attendance and academic year updates in the Banner system, reviewing potential overawards, and managing loan limit reviews. The Assistant Director will also serve on the Financial Aid Appeals committee, assist with the appeal process, and conduct monthly reconciliations for the Federal Pell Grant and TEACH grants. The position also involves processing Title IV adjustments, conducting annual loan cleanup, and providing general support to Financial Aid, One Stop, and Scholarships staff members. This role is dynamic and may include additional tasks to ensure compliance with the U.S. Department of Education's requirements.
