About The Position

The Assistant Director of Editorial Services (Program) provides writing, editing, proofreading, and project management of assigned print and digital communications and marketing copy for The University of Texas at Arlington. This individual develops, produces, and/or supports development of high-quality internal and external print, digital, and multimedia communications for key audiences that include prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, peer institutions, friends, and the public. This individual will be involved in the creation and production of upwards of 500 individual projects per year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, English, public relations, communications, marketing, or a related field, or related equivalent of work experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in print and electronic communications, including direct experience writing and editing, as well as a working knowledge of design, photography, and production; or five (5) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develops communications and marketing strategies, content outlines, and relevant editorial content for a wide range of print and digital communications.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with writers, marketers, designers, photographers, and other colleagues from MME and units across the University, including the Office of Enrollment Management, Office of Development and Alumni Relations, and Office of the President, to develop ideas and execute concepts for print and electronic communications that meet the highest standards of excellence.
  • Develops, writes, and edits compelling content, such as brochures, branded materials, ads, website copy, video scripts, email newsletters, podcasts, etc., that informs and motivates key audiences and supports the University’s mission.
  • Develops, writes, and edits editorial content for high-quality, high-profile print and electronic communications. Key projects include but are not limited to: UTArlington Magazine, Inquiry Magazine, UTA Engineer Magazine, UTA Health Magazine, and the president’s annual report.
  • Conducts interviews with faculty, staff, alumni, donors, friends, students, etc., and secures necessary approvals internally and externally to support and enhance editorial content.
  • Independently conducts necessary background research and fact checking.
  • Ensures accuracy and quality control at every point during the production process.
  • Stays informed of University priorities and trends and exercises excellent news judgment in the selection and development of editorial content.
  • Serves as backup to the Director of Editorial Services and manages all editorial functions and staff in the director’s absence.
  • Hires, manages, and supervises the work of freelance writers, as necessary.
  • Makes assignments, sets expectations, and tracks/enforces deadlines with assigned editorial content specialist and other writers and media relations officers within MME .
  • Performs other duties assigned.
