About The Position

The Assistant Director for Education Abroad (EA) Programs at Michigan State University is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of faculty-directed, direct-enroll, exchange, and provider programs, as well as first-year education abroad programming. This role involves supervising the EA Programs Team, collaborating with various departments, and ensuring the quality and effectiveness of education abroad initiatives. The Assistant Director also plays a key role in program development and communication with stakeholders, while supporting the onboarding and mentoring of new team members.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in international studies, foreign language, area studies, communication, higher education administration, or related field.
  • 5 to 8 years of progressively responsible experience in international program administration and supervision.
  • Conversational proficiency in a foreign language.
  • Experience studying or working abroad.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the education abroad programs team, including performance reviews and professional development planning.
  • Review and realign education abroad program coordinator work assignments annually.
  • Lead regular education abroad programs team meetings, monitor work issues, and set agendas.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of education abroad programs, including budgeting and partner relationships.
  • Serve as the primary EA liaison for new program development, evaluation, and budgeting.
  • Support the implementation of the Spartan Global Learning Initiative and related projects.
  • Collaborate with the EA Business Office on program budgeting and expectations.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications team on program promotion and outreach.
  • Assist the Associate Director in monitoring and refining systems and processes related to program management.
  • Represent the Associate Director at meetings and handle key roles in cross-cutting projects.
