About The Position

The Assistant Director of Clinical Services at Georgia State University is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of animal facilities that support various research programs. The position requires collaboration with the Director of Animal Resources and includes responsibilities for training and supervising staff.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree and three years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.
• Veterinary medical degree (DVM or VMD) from an AVMA accredited veterinary college or ECFVG certification.
• Veterinary licensure in at least one of the United States.
• Board certification (or Board eligible) by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine.

Nice To Haves

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Three or more years of relevant experience in veterinary medicine.
• Experience with high containment research and laboratory animal species.
• Previous IACUC experience.
• Familiarity with the AAALAC re-accreditation process.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary medical and surgical care to a variety of laboratory animal species.
• Serve as a member of the IACUC and participate in related activities.
• Conduct veterinary consultations for IACUC protocols and research initiatives.
• Assist the Director of Animal Resources with program direction and leadership initiatives.
• Oversee the Animal Healthcare Technicians (Veterinary Assistants).
• Direct health surveillance and quarantine programs.
• Serve as an instructor in bio methodology and surgical workshops.
• Develop additional bio methodology and surgical workshops as needed.
• Provide one-on-one procedural training.
• Assist with compliance efforts including USDA inspections and AAALAC site visits.
