About The Position

The Assistant Director reports to the Senior Associate Director of Career Education and supports the Center’s mission to provide effective educational programs and services to advise diverse students and alumni with their career planning and professional development. Provide effective career advising through individual appointments with diverse students and alumni. Collaborate with members of the campus community to develop and implement career education programming. Engage alumni and students in career education programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus one to three years of direct 1:1 career advising experience, preferably in a private liberal arts higher education setting, and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and work experience.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the internship and employment recruitment process.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, presentation and teamwork skills to interact with varied constituencies (faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, and employers).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional judgment, ensure strict confidentiality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism in a range of situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to support, contribute to and strengthen a vibrant, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community of students, alumni, faculty, and fellow staff colleagues.
  • Willingness to conduct presentations occasionally during evenings, weekends, and work some holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience with administration of career related assessments (e.g., MBTI, Clifton Strengths).
  • Knowledge of college student development.
  • Familiarity with career management platforms and educational technologies (e.g. Handshake, PeopleGrove, Nexus, LinkedIn).
  • Desire to attend student-related events of interest outside of working hours.

Responsibilities

  • Career Advising: Provides career advising to undergraduate students and alumni on all aspects of career planning, internship and employment/graduate school preparation.
  • Provides individual and group instruction on various platforms and databases to be utilized by students for career exploration, networking, and internship/job search.
  • Collaboration: Works closely with employer relations team to support and promote employer and alumni engagement, consortia events, career fairs and other programming.
  • Collaborates with on-campus constituents to provide career readiness and professional development opportunities for students across campus.
  • Program Development and Training: Designs, coordinates, and presents career readiness workshops and programs that address the needs of students across all four years.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of programs/resources/technology and reports career education outcomes.
  • Administration: Utilizes Handshake and Nexus platforms for student engagement management and supports content creation and management for UReady curriculum.
  • Supervises career assistants to support assigned project work.
  • Pitches in to assist colleagues as needed.
