About The Position

The Assistant Director for Fitness and Aquatics at Wright State University is responsible for overseeing the organization and administration of fitness and wellness programs within Campus Recreation. This role requires creativity and innovation to develop programs that cater to a diverse student population, including individuals with disabilities, and involves integrating various resources to enhance campus-wide initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Fitness Management, Sports Management, Health and Behavioral Science, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in the fitness/wellness industry or a related field.
  • Experience planning and leading a variety of fitness activities.
  • Knowledge of risk management issues in fitness.
  • Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Fitness Certification (i.e. ACSM, ACE, or AFAA).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Exercise Science, Fitness Management, or a health/fitness related field.
  • Personal training certificate from NSCA, NASM, ISSA, ACE, or a nationally accredited organization.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR.
  • Fitness screening and assessment experience.
  • Experience in campus recreation and/or university environment.
  • LGI Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, implement, promote, and evaluate a comprehensive fitness program including group exercise classes, personal fitness training, assessment, and special events.
  • Develop and implement a staffing plan for fitness programs.
  • Create and maintain program schedules for fitness activities.
  • Develop and implement policies, systems, and training programs for the proper use of fitness equipment.
  • Develop, manage, implement, promote, and evaluate aquatics programming.
  • Perform regular safety and cleaning inspections of the pool and equipment to ensure safety and comfort for patrons.
  • Assist in planning and executing special pool events for students and employees.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate programming staff including student instructors and adjunct instructors.
  • Supervise and support adapted recreation student manager in developing and implementing adapted recreation programs.
  • Develop effective long-range expansion and program plans based on customer-use trends and marketing strategies.
  • Prepare and monitor the annual university budget for the fitness program.
