The Assistant Director works under direct supervision of the Camp Director to achieve Camp Felix goals and objectives by creating and supervising a camp program that helps campers build positive relationships, improve their self-esteem, develop healthy habits and learn new skills.

Requirements

High School Degree or GED required.
Must have three years/seasons of camp experience, preferably in a sleepaway camp setting.
Must have at least 1 year/season of supervisory experience in a camp or educational setting.
Must be energetic, enthusiastic, and a team player.
Must be a hands-on worker and serve as a positive example to campers and staff.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Must be able to encourage and support staff while providing constructive criticism and acknowledgement when needed.
Must be able to work independently assessing what needs to be done and taking action.
Must be able to delegate to staff.
Must be able to create positive relationships with counselors and staff members.
Exhibit qualities such as patience, kindness, honestly, responsibility, compassion, and desire to help others.
Must be committed to the Camp Felix goals and outcomes.
Must be able to handle a crisis in a calm and effective manner.
Must be available for training week/weekend and all 2 weeks of camp.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of or familiarity with the issues/needs of children involved in the child welfare system preferred.
Updated First Aid and CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist Camp Director in supervision of camp program starting with pre-planning before camp starts and evaluation after camp ends.
Reside at camp for duration of camp.
Directly supervise Unit Leaders and assist them with supervising Senior Counselors and Counselors; supervise Volunteers and oversee volunteer program at camp.
Act as first responder to camper issues including homesickness, conflicts and other behavior issues.
Actively ensure that the daily camp schedule is running smoothly.
Run or assist with the campers’ selection of activities during Electives period.
Inspect campers’ facilities during cabin check. Check for maintenance issues and report any findings to Camp Director immediately.
Participate in staff training and help deliver parts of the staff training during training week; reinforce staff training during the camp season.
Assist with all arrangements for transportation of supplies and distribution/storage of supplies at camp.
Participate in the end-of-summer inventory process to plan for what is needed next summer.
Assist with supervision of the arrival and departure of campers each week.
Help to implement camp mission, vision and goals as well as the camp policies and procedures.
Assist in planning and implementation of daily camp program.
Assist with oversight of the CIT program.
Serve as an exemplary role model for all camp staff.
Oversee end-of-camp clean up and packing process.
Assist with planning and implementing a successful Open House event
Participate in end-of-camp staff evaluation process and camper questionnaire process.
Enforce safety and health regulations.
Assists in responding to emergencies in a manner consistent with camp safety policy and procedures.
Regular and punctual time and attendance, and adherence to The Foundling’s and your department’s specific time and attendance policies and protocol.
