The Assistant Director of Accessibility Services at Cecil College plays a crucial role in supporting students with disabilities by ensuring they have access to necessary accommodations and resources. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing a caseload of students, determining eligibility for accommodations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to implement support services effectively.

  • Manage a caseload of students who disclose a disability and assist them in exploring resources.
  • Interpret documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations.
  • Advise registered students on Accessibility Services procedures and coach them on their roles in implementing accommodations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to implement approved accommodations and provide training on compliance with regulations.
  • Coordinate accommodations for college ceremonies and events.
  • Serve as the Accessibility Services representative on college committees and co-chair the Accessibility Committee.
  • Monitor academic progress of Accessibility Services students and provide supplemental services to improve skills.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging issues in disability services and engage in professional development.
  • Organize and maintain a complete spreadsheet of registered Accessibility Services student information.
  • Track status of student requests and ensure timely coordination of accommodations each semester.
  • Develop and maintain effective systems for equipment and alternative textbook requests.
  • Utilize and manage the Accommodate system for documentation of services.
  • Develop and update procedures, policies, and publications related to Accessibility Services.
  • Manage ongoing confidential data collection and analysis in collaboration with Institutional Research.
  • Hire, train, and supervise work study students and support personnel as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries and participate in campus-wide events for students.
  • Collaborate with the Center for Institutional Learning to support Universal Design for Learning.
  • Deliver training and programs to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintain compliance with ADA, FERPA, HIPAA, and MHEC standards.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field such as Disability Studies, Higher Education, Counseling/Psychology, or Social Work.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in disability services or advising in an educational setting.
  • Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Proficiency in evaluating disability documentation and determining appropriate accommodations.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assist students in crisis and connect them to appropriate support resources.
  • Experience with disability services software such as Accommodate is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills to research and analyze data.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and understanding their unique needs.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies for persons with disabilities.
  • Strong technical skills, including knowledge of online access issues.
