About The Position

The Design Assistant plays a critical support role within the Design team, contributing to the development and execution of seasonal apparel collections. This position is ideal for someone early in their design career who is eager to gain hands-on experience and grow within the apparel industry. The role will assist across various facets of the design process, from CAD sketching and tech pack updates to fabric swatch preparation, buyer presentation support, and PLM tracking.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant internship or professional experience in apparel design. Especially helpful if you've worked on designs that fit into the Banana Republic aesthetic.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop required.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and garment construction fundamentals.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Eagerness to learn, take direction, and contribute positively to team culture.
  • Dependable, punctual, and committed to high-quality work.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to pitch in across departments.
  • Able to meet deadlines with a strong sense of urgency and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with creating CAD sketches, construction details, and updates to tech packs.
  • Maintain and update CADs and style records across multiple accounts.
  • Support concept approvals for licensors and prepare documentation.
  • Generate style numbers and maintain organized style libraries.
  • Prepare market samples and fabric/trim boards for seasonal presentations.
  • Participate in fittings, take detailed notes, and recap key feedback for the team.
  • Update BOMs and tech packs for production and costing purposes.
  • Prep fabric punches and trims to hand off to Product Development for sourcing.
  • Submit cut tickets and assist with organizing internal sample tracking.
  • Maintain up-to-date PLM records including tracking approval dates and sample status.
  • Organize and manage sample racks, fabric and trim binders, and related materials.
  • Tag and photograph product lines for buyer shipments and showroom set-ups.
  • Ship and track buyer and licensor approvals.
  • Cut and mount paper dolls and color cards for buyer presentations.
  • Submit creative services requests for production and presentation needs.
  • Assist in organizing and preparing internal sales and trend presentation materials.
