About The Position

The Assistant Deputy Director, Signal Maintenance-H&H is directly responsible for planning, managing, and directing the resources (labor, material, and equipment) in association with the maintenance, testing, and inspection of the wayside signal systems along the Hudson Mainline, Harlem Main Line, West of Hudson Main Line, Beacon Line, Harmon Yard, Brewster Yard, and Wassiac Yard. The role ensures that all work is compliant with the requirements of CFR Part 234, 235, and 236; Metro-North C&S 1, 2, and 3; and Metro-North Priority 1 Program and all relevant safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related curriculum.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in management of signal systems workgroups.
  • Experience in wayside signal systems testing compliant with CFR part 234, 235, and 236.
  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience encompassing Engineering, Maintenance, Labor Management, Budget process, and Manpower control.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or comparable applications.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze new and existing products, equipment, and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a high-profile/high-pressure environment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and technical direction to the Hudson, Harlem, and West of Hudson Line Signal Maintenance Workgroups.
  • Coordinate the functions of the wayside signal workgroup with the requirements and needs of various departments to ensure safe operation of the signal system.
  • Direct and manage the daily functions of the Wayside Workgroup, ensuring efficiency within labor and material budget parameters.
  • Analyze and monitor overall wayside signal system performances to meet operational needs and safety parameters.
  • Evaluate alternative solutions, system upgrades, and revisions from technical and economic perspectives.
  • Develop staff and support the workgroup in expanding system knowledge and increasing safety.
  • Support Metro-North Safety Program through execution of required activities and policies.
  • Select, develop, and motivate staff, providing career development and effective coaching.
