About The Position

The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily store operations, supervising employees, and ensuring excellent customer service. This role helps manage staffing, merchandising, inventory control, and operational procedures, and serves as acting manager in the Store Manager’s absence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional business or management training preferred.
  • 2+ years of retail or grocery experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle conflict resolution and employee coaching professionally.
  • Familiarity with POS systems, scheduling software, and timekeeping platforms.
  • Attention to detail with regard to staffing, reporting, and store presentation.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs throughout the shift.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising all store departments to ensure smooth and efficient daily operations.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees.
  • Help manage employee schedules, breaks, and time-off requests.
  • Ensure employee time reports are accurate, properly recorded, and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Provide coaching, direction, and feedback to team members; participate in performance reviews.
  • Assist with resolving employee conflicts and enforcing company policies, including handling minor disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure all hiring and disciplinary documentation is completed and properly filed.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, safety, and appearance according to company standards.
  • Assist with inventory management, including ordering, stocking, rotation, and shrink control.
  • Monitor sales, expense controls, and labor costs to support profitability goals.
  • Support merchandising, promotional displays, and signage accuracy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to customer concerns and escalated issues.
  • Conduct store walkthroughs and address issues related to departments, building, or parking lot maintenance.
  • Serve as acting manager when the Store Manager is off duty or unavailable.
  • Communicate regularly with the Store Manager and corporate office regarding store performance and staffing.
