About The Position

The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing the daily operations and performance of the Deli Department. This role helps ensure compliance with food safety standards, strong customer service, effective merchandising, inventory control, and associate development while driving sales and operational consistency. Requirements

  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of deli operations, food preparation, and food safety practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced retail environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Basic proficiency in computer systems and retail technology tools.
  • Ability to motivate associates and support accountability.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior deli, food service, or supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Deli Manager in leading, coaching, training, and developing department associates.
  • Assist with scheduling, task delegation, and daily production planning.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to associates and reinforce performance and food safety expectations.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and safety‑focused work environment.
  • Assist with daily deli operations, including food preparation, production, and service.
  • Ensure cases, displays, and service areas are clean, full, and visually appealing.
  • Support execution of merchandising plans, promotions, and seasonal programs.
  • Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and product availability.
  • Support compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
  • Assist with monitoring temperatures, labeling, rotation, and required documentation.
  • Ensure proper handling, cooking, cooling, and holding procedures are followed.
  • Address food safety or compliance issues promptly and escalate as needed.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory control to support freshness and minimize shrink.
  • Monitor department conditions related to spoilage, waste, and out‑of‑stocks.
  • Support labor and expense control efforts in alignment with department goals.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service through friendly, knowledgeable interactions.
  • Assist customers with product selection and special requests.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and escalate when appropriate.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Support loss prevention and shrink reduction initiatives.
  • Partner with the Deli Manager and store leadership to support overall store operations.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the Deli Manager’s absence.
  • Support store initiatives, promotions, and special projects as needed.

  • Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans.
  • For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
