About The Position

We're looking for an Assistant Deli & Kitchen Trainee to join our team and learn what it takes to deliver fresh, high-quality meals our guests love. At Balls Food Stores, we bring food and community together through our family of stores-including Hen House, Price Chopper, Payless Discount Foods, and Sun Fresh. From chef-inspired hot bar favorites to ready-to-enjoy meals, we're known for quality, freshness, and an experience that keeps guests coming back. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll gain real experience in both deli service and kitchen operations, including but not limited to: Preparing and serving fresh, ready-to-eat foods, including hot bar items and grab-and-go meals Learning food safety, sanitation, and proper handling standards (FIFO) Keeping products fresh, stocked, and visually appealing Supporting inventory, rotation, and minimizing waste Delivering friendly, fast, and helpful guest service Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment You'll build skills that set the foundation for a strong career in food service-all while working with a team that takes pride in what they do. Training That Sets You Up for Success: You'll train at the store with the greatest need closest to your home base After training, placement is based on business needs, your performance, and the first available opportunity across our locations Strong performance-including but not limited to reliability, food safety, quality, and guest service-will help set you apart

Requirements

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Previous food service or retail experience
