About The Position

Assistant Dean or Associate Dean of Clinical Education (DOE) (Full-Time Exempt; 0.5–0.9 FTE considered for physicians maintaining part-time clinical practice) The College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking an Assistant Dean or Associate Dean of Clinical Education to provide strategic and operational leadership for the clinical education program ( OMS III–IV ). Reporting to the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs , this leader ensures high-quality, accreditation-compliant clinical rotations across all affiliated sites while advancing student success and strengthening clinical partnerships.

Requirements

  • D.O. or M.D. degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-approved residency program.
  • Board certification required.
  • Unrestricted medical license or eligibility for licensure in the State of Utah.
  • 5+ years clinical practice ; board-certified physician with leadership experience in clinical education.
  • Proven ability to manage complex student, faculty, and partner issues with sound judgment.
  • Strong communication, policy application, accreditation awareness , and data-driven improvement skills.

Responsibilities

  • Set the vision, strategy, and performance expectations for the Department of Clinical Education ; supervise the Director of Clinical Education Operations and clinical education coordinators/staff.
  • Lead adjunct clinical faculty recruitment, onboarding, credentialing oversight, evaluation, development, and retention; address performance concerns with improvement plans as needed.
  • Serve as the primary academic liaison to hospitals, clinics, physician groups, and health systems; cultivate sustainable, mission-aligned partnerships.
  • Manage complex student concerns during rotations (professionalism, performance, site-based issues) with fairness, consistency, and institutional authority; collaborate with Student Affairs and committees.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement through outcomes data, evaluations integrity, and timely reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with COCA standards, including documentation for self-studies, audits, and accreditation reporting.
  • Contribute to scholarship, institutional service, and community engagement aligned with the College’s mission.
