About The Position

The Assistant Dean of Students (ADoS) is responsible for the operation, administration, and supervision of the student conduct system at Texas Wesleyan University. This position is responsible for implementing procedures and protocol in compliance with University policy and the Code of Student Conduct. With direct supervision from the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students ( VPSA /DoS), the ADoS will provide educational programming and initiatives in the mission of creating responsible, global citizens. The ADoS provides various training for University hearing officers, hearing and appeal boards, and staff including conduct investigations, compliance with federal mandates, and reporting structures.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the University’s student conduct process and serves as a primary conduct officer for the institution.
  • Serves as Title IX Deputy Coordinator and investigator for the University. Responsible for maintaining all requisite credentials and competencies to serve as such.
  • Facilitates the reporting of student conduct complaints by individuals, departments, and organizations, conducts preliminary investigations into student conduct as appropriate by interviewing students and other witnesses, and organizes formal conduct hearings to resolve student conduct cases.
  • Investigates behavioral concerns brought to the Dean of Students office.
  • Trains hearing officers to be able to effectively investigate alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct including issues surrounding due process, preponderance of the evidence, and privacy.
  • Supervises the student conduct process as facilitated by other professional staff serving as hearing officers. Follows up with performance evaluations with direct supervisor of those hearing officers.
  • Researches and interprets promising practices, higher education trends, and relevant legal or legislative updates including, but not limited to, Title IX, VAWA , the Clery Act, and FERPA .
  • Supervises and manages the delivery of educational programs, services, and activities for students which directly support the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and the University.
  • Develops educational, cultural, social, and recreational programs and activities focused on civility and responsibility for all students in a manner that is collaborative with other University departments and units.
  • Initiates and coordinates review, edits, and updates to the Code of Student Conduct, Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program, and other University policies.
  • Works in direct collaboration with the VPSA /DoS to ensure appropriate compliance with all student conduct related requirements including, but not limited to Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, the Clery Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and the Violence Against Women Act.
  • Educates and serves as a consultative resource for students, faculty, staff, and other members of the University community on the Student Conduct process, Code of Student Conduct, academic integrity process, alleged violations, and due process rights of students.
  • Serves on University behavioral intervention team to address, monitor, resolve, and share issues pertinent to students of concern. Serves as a primary interventionist for such referrals.
  • Responsible for conducting security clearance process in collaboration with Admissions department.
  • Serves as the Student Affairs advisor and budget manager for the Student Government Association.
  • Assists the VPSA /DoS in providing an appropriate and coordinated response from the University to personal and campus emergencies.
  • Serves on the Division of Student Affairs Leadership Team.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
