About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean of Students provides support for student services and programs offered through the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS). The role includes serving as a point of support for student-related issues, assisting with coordination of intervention for student crises, and supporting strategic projects and initiatives. The Assistant Dean will contribute to a culture of care, responsiveness, and inclusion across the university community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in higher education/student services, counseling, or related area.
  • At least five years (post-Master's degree) of relevant experience in higher education or related settings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking skills, and sound judgment.
  • Presentation, conflict mediation, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive partnerships with parents, faculty/staff, administration, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to take initiative, balance multiple projects, and set priorities.
  • Ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information clearly and concisely.
  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with student concerns, referrals, and follow-up.
  • Assist with student crisis response and coordination with campus partners.
  • Support the conduct and academic integrity processes by serving as a back-up Hearing and Appeals officer.
  • Maintain accurate case management and documentation systems (Maxient, Navigate).
  • Support the Sr. VPSA/Dean and divisional leadership with planning and implementation of strategic projects.
  • Track progress, timelines, and deliverables for divisional goals.
  • Gather and analyze data related to student engagement, retention, and success.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and project updates for leadership use.
  • Assist with orientation, training, and outreach efforts to increase awareness of the ODOS and available student support resources.
  • Assist in creating and disseminating materials that promote student awareness of ODOS policies and resources.
  • Support divisional assessment and program evaluation efforts.
  • Assist with the coordination of logistics for meetings, events, and divisional initiatives.
  • Review, update, and maintain the ODOS and Division of Student Affairs websites and related communication platforms to ensure timely and accurate information.
  • Assist in editing and distributing office publications, reports, and outreach materials.
  • Contribute to a culture of care, responsiveness, and inclusion across the university community.
  • Represent the ODOS on committees and workgroups as assigned.
  • Assist in developing educational materials and presentations for staff, faculty, and students that promote student well-being and effective intervention strategies.
  • Assist with the review, interpretation, and communication of university policies related to student conduct, wellness, and academic integrity.
  • Help ensure compliance with federal and state mandates such as FERPA, Clery, and Title IX (as appropriate).
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating training for faculty and staff on student support, behavioral intervention, and effective referral processes.
  • Support student-facing workshops (e.g., managing stress, navigating conflict, understanding university processes).
  • Serve as a member of the university's CARE Team, coordinating the response to students experiencing personal or academic challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Community Standards on complaints, investigations, and resolution of Code of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity violations.
  • Liaise with campus partners, including Academic Affairs, to communicate ODOS policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Contribute to assessment efforts within the ODOS.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
