The Assistant Dean of Student Care & Well-Being at Georgia Southern University plays a crucial role in supporting students facing complex challenges that hinder their academic success. This position is highly collaborative, focusing on non-clinical student case management and advocacy. The Assistant Dean will develop and implement both long and short-term response plans to address various concerns, including transitions, physical and mental health issues, student safety, personal crises, basic needs insecurity, and integration into campus life. The role requires working closely with students to assess their needs and facilitate access to college and community services, ensuring they receive the necessary support to thrive in their academic environment. In addition to direct student interaction, the Assistant Dean will coordinate referrals to internal and external service providers, maintain follow-up systems for students referred to resources, and foster effective partnerships with key departments such as Academic Affairs, the GSU Police Department, and Student Health Services. The position also involves assisting with absence notifications for students needing to be away from campus due to various circumstances, communicating with family members as appropriate, and developing outreach efforts to raise awareness about student care and well-being initiatives. The Assistant Dean will also be responsible for educational programming aimed at enhancing student well-being and development, maintaining accurate case management records, and serving on the Behavioral Assessment Team. This role includes administrative responsibilities during after-hours crisis response and overseeing the operations of the Food Pantry on the Statesboro campus. The Assistant Dean may supervise graduate assistants and is expected to contribute to a supportive and inclusive campus environment.
