POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Dean of Curriculum & Academic Success is a member of the full-time faculty (rank commensurate with experience). The Assistant Dean is responsible for monitoring programmatic accreditation standards and state agency regulations to ensure programmatic compliance. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the delivery of quality content delivery of both existing and new programs. The incumbent with provide academic vision, leadership, and policy direction required to achieve the highest standards of excellence in instruction, with measurable outcomes, for faculty and students. Responsible for driving collaboration with collegiate and departmental leadership to shape and support the curriculum. The incumbent will provide administrative leadership for all aspects of the curriculum, including the creation and development of new courses and programs, the maintenance and revision of current courses and programs, the oversight of specific budgetary aspects of instructional costs and resources, and the review and development of policies and procedures related to curriculum.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree in nursing or education from a regionally accredited institution with a concentration in the nursing education.
  • Successful record of increasing responsibility or project/initiative leadership within a university or industry setting.
  • Extensive curriculum development experience at both undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Experience with systematic evaluation plans
  • Experience with overall program mapping and assessment strategies as well as post-graduation assessments such as NCLEX and NP certification exams.
  • At least 3-4 years teaching experience at a post-secondary education institution
  • Active, valid, and unencumbered state nursing license. CNE preferred.
  • Practical experience in the discipline of the program and knowledge of current best practices (in field). Has experience in prelicensure and post licensure program curriculum.
  • Evidence of management experience.
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships with students and Faculty.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Excellent critical thinking, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent teaching skills as evidenced in prior teaching evaluations.
  • Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills) and experience with computerized learning management systems.
  • Strong analytical and change management skills.
  • Fiscal experience (preferred).
  • Strong personnel management experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop professional rapport and work effectively, cooperatively, and flexibly in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implement academic policies and procedures.
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, and Faculty.
  • Ability to effectively present information to employees, students, Faculty, Academic and Campus Leaders, and Corporate Leaders.
  • Ability to develop and complete projects without continued direct supervision.
  • Ability to physically work in the United States while performing all responsibilities of the position for the University.
  • Ability to embrace and lead change.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accreditation criteria, state agency regulations, and academic journals

Nice To Haves

  • Nurse Practitioner license preferred.
  • Membership in a professional association tied to area of instruction (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to University policies as described in the Employee Handbook, the Faculty Supplement to the Employee Handbook, job description, or other separate guidelines.
  • Serves as liaison between curriculum team and the Dean of the College/School.
  • Oversee curriculum development and student assessment-related systems.
  • Supervises curricular changes/implementation for the Departments deemed necessary and in collaboration with other campuses of the University.
  • Assists with the development of curricular and policy revisions as requested by the College/School Dean, or Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
  • Manages curriculum design and implementation.
  • Ensures curriculum meets regulatory, Board of Nursing, and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborates with the Center of Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) Team for implementation of new course design.
  • Establishes and maintains a schedule for ongoing course revisions and evaluation.
  • Maintain and manage the College of Nursing Systematic Evaluation Plan.
  • Ensures Department Chairs, Program Directors, and faculty are in compliance with South University’s academic policies and procedures, SACSCOC, programmatic accreditation standards and state agency regulations.
  • Supervise curriculum team.
  • Oversees curriculum development, mapping and ensures compliance with South University’s academic policies and procedures, SACSCOC, programmatic accreditation standards, and state agency regulations.
  • Ensures that the curriculum, as a whole, supports accreditation standards, the essentials of education as defined by the governing bodies and Board of Nursing standards.
  • Provides leadership and direction to clinical team, Department Chairs, Program Directors, and Assistant Program Directors (including program assessment, strategic planning).
  • Maintains document repository for the CONPH.
  • Serves the College and University on committees as requested by the College/School Dean.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the field of study and enhance the learning environment.
  • Completes professional development and in-service activities each year as outlined in the faculty supplement.
