About The Position

The Assistant Dean for Teaching and Learning Design (ADTLD) at Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) is responsible for developing and implementing a pedagogical vision for the School and directing the Center for Teaching and Learning Design (CTLD). This role involves strategic leadership in instructional design, managing a team of instructional designers and course support specialists, and enhancing teaching and learning across various programs.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Education, Engineering, or Science field.
  • Five years of experience managing staff in higher education instructional design-based projects and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Create a strategy for supporting all stakeholders across the school.
  • Provide visionary leadership in the instructional design arena, developing and utilizing research-supported pedagogical methodologies and technologies.
  • Participate in the JHU and global online education community to advance JHU efforts and identify best practices in online education.
  • Determine the allocation of human resources to support course developments across Engineering for Professionals online programs and Lifelong Learning courses.
  • Monitor course developments, interacting with staff, faculty, and program chairs for reporting and performance improvement.
  • Assist EP program chairs and instructors in the review and improvement of online courses, including regular review of end-of-term course evaluation results.
  • Ensure compliance of all WSE courses with university, state, and federal codes and policies.
  • Manage and advance WSE assessment and evaluation of student outcomes in online programs for continuous improvement and accreditation efforts.
  • Administer a budget for CTLD programs, faculty course development salaries, and staff training.
  • Collaborate with Engineering for Professionals leadership to deliver a first-class online experience, boosting student retention and satisfaction.
  • Serve as an advisor on teaching and learning topics and initiatives.
  • Seek opportunities for external and internal funding for teaching and learning projects.

  • Starting Salary Range: $131,000 - $171,000 Annually (Commensurate with experience)
