About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and strategic professional to assume the role of Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration at the College of Public Health. This critical leadership position involves directing all financial and administrative functions of the college, working closely with the Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans, Department Chairs, and other key leaders to drive the college's mission forward. As the chief administrative and financial officer, the Assistant Dean will report directly to the COPH Dean and maintain an indirect reporting line to the UAMS Vice Chancellor for Finance. The role also includes responsibilities as the IPE/COPH Building Manager, requiring effective coordination across UAMS colleges and divisions. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Seven (7) years of financial and administrative experience in an academic setting
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • CPA license (either active or inactive)
  • Financial Expertise: Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and fund accounting principles.

  • Space and Resource Management: Oversight of building operations, space planning, and procurement.

  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with systems like Workday, Blackbaud, and contract management tools

Responsibilities

  • Financial Management: Oversee the college's financial health, including budget development, resource analysis, cost control, and compliance. Manage external and internal financial reporting, faculty productivity metrics, incentive plans, and dean’s commitments to faculty.
  • Operations Management: Manage day-to-day business operations, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies. Oversee HR issues, adjunct faculty, space management, security, construction needs, procurement, and inventory tracking.
  • Advisory Role: Provide guidance to college leadership on financial and administrative policies, counsel on faculty conflict of interest, strategic investments, and recruitment. Act as the COPH signatory in various campus systems.
  • Liaison Duties: Serve as a financial and administrative liaison to external academic bodies and UAMS divisions, including Finance, Human Resources, and other colleges.
  • May perform other duties as assigned to aid UAMS’s and the COPH Mission.
