About The Position

The Assistant Dean of Advanced Education Programs provides strategic leadership and executive oversight for all postgraduate educational programs within the College of Dental Medicine. The role is responsible for ensuring academic excellence, regulatory compliance, standardization across all postdoctoral programs, and the continuous enhancement of advanced education offerings by guiding program directors, promoting the achievement and professional development of residents, and aligning program objectives with the College's mission, accreditation requirements, and emerging directions and technologies in dental and higher education.

Requirements

  • Knowledge: Dental Medicine - Comprehensive knowledge of the information and techniques needed in Dental Medicine. This includes symptoms and treatment planning.
  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • English Language - Thorough knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Customer and Personal Service - General knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.
  • Psychology - Working knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Counseling - Working knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.

  • Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from a CODA-accredited institution.
  • Board certified, or board eligible, from the American Board in the applicant's specialty.
  • DDS/DMD or foreign equivalent dentistry degree
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in postgraduate program leadership, preferably as Program Director of a CODA-accredited residency program.
  • Extensive clinical experience in specialty practice, including patient care, teaching, and clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience, including curriculum oversight, accreditation, and student advising.
  • Evidence of scholarship, research, or other academic contributions in dental or health professions education.
  • Extensive interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, residents, and external stakeholders.

  • Familiar with the process of program accreditation to include self-study reports and program change reports.
  • Understanding of higher education academic and program requirements.
  • Use of data and reports from electronic health record systems for informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and monitors the strategic plan for graduate and advanced programs, ensuring alignment with institutional mission and responsiveness to changing paradigms in dental and health professions education.
  • Provides curricular oversight, including review of program curricula, assessment of student performance, and guidance of academic support functions across all advanced education programs.
  • Ensures integration of didactic and clinical courses across all years of the curriculum, collaborating with course directors, clinical faculty, and program directors to maintain curricular coherence.
  • Leads the review, assessment, and accreditation of the postgraduate programs, ensuring compliance with university policies, Title IX regulations, county, state, federal, and international requirements, professional association standards, and accreditation bodies such as CODA.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation, the Associate Dean for Clinical Services, and program directors to monitor the effectiveness of curricula, technology, and services.
  • Directs accreditation reviews and ensure all programs meet professional and institutional standards.
  • Develops new initiatives, partnerships, and innovative program delivery models to support program development, enrollment growth, and alignment with workforce needs.
  • Guides and oversees admissions processes in collaboration with department chairs and program directors, ensuring clear admission requirements, policies on course credit, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Implements and oversees systems for student engagement, retention, progression, and success, including participation in the Post Graduate Student Progress Committee, monitoring academic performance, counseling students, managing leaves of absence, and addressing student misconduct cases.
  • Provides leadership in student advising, mentoring, and professional development, fostering career readiness, student well-being, and successful program completion.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student records, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data on student outcomes, program performance, and alumni impact; integrates results from various data sources to support evidence-based program improvements.
  • Highlights and disseminates best practices in teaching, and service, preparing reports and communications that showcase programs accomplishments internally and externally.
  • Oversees budget planning, allocation of fellowships, assistantships, and operational resources to ensure financial sustainability of advanced education programs.
  • Establishes operational policies and procedures, modifying them as needed based on data analysis, demographics, and evolving program demands.
  • Engages in institutional service by participating in college and university committees, task forces, and accreditation site visits.
  • Represents the institution and its advanced programs at community, state, national, and international events, cultivating partnerships with industry, secondary education, and professional organizations to expand visibility and opportunities.
  • Serves as a resource for faculty, staff, and students regarding curriculum delivery, program requirements, and compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
  • Promotes the institution by fostering external partnerships, engaging in outreach, and advancing initiatives that enhance the reputation and impact of the postgraduate programs.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned to support the mission and operations of the college and university.
