About The Position

Camp Shalom Staff bring their unique talents and commitment to building community and creating environments where campers can thrive. Each Counselor plays an important role in making camp happen from greeting campers as they arrive, tending to skinned knees, teaching new games, sharing in their joy of trying something new and finding a lost item at the end of the day. Our staff is comprised of individuals representing a wide variety of backgrounds, talents and interests with a common theme of wanting to be part of the Camp Shalom Family! What You’ll Do (Besides, Have FUN!!) Be responsible for the needs of the campers, your fellow staff members and yourself Be safety conscious at all times Provide fellow staff members with your support Maintain strong lines of communication with all other staff members Adhere to Camp Shalom behavior guidelines Maintain proper decorum Be an exemplary role model of Jewish values Be actively engaged with campers, as opposed to just watching them Be on time and participate in all assigned activities Dress appropriately for activities, at all times adhering to the Camp dress code, including wearing an appropriate swimsuit for waterplay and swimming Additional responsibilities as required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Desire and ability to work with children in camp setting
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Ability to relate to one's peer group
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance
  • Desire to change direction as necessary to continue growth in position and role in Camp
  • Be of good character, integrity and adaptability
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
  • Well-developed sense of responsibility, good judgment, common sense
  • Must have understanding of the potential, characteristics and issues of young children
  • Must be sufficiently mature to guide impressionable campers through their time at Camp
  • Must respect the feelings of both children and their parents at all times
