About The Position

The Assistant Counsel at Eastern Kentucky University is responsible for providing legal counsel and representation to the University in various legal matters, including contract, employment, and higher education law. This role involves handling requests under the Kentucky Open Records Act and responding to subpoenas and other legal orders. The Assistant Counsel reports directly to the University's Deputy Counsel and plays a crucial role in supporting the legal needs of the University administration.

Requirements

  • Must be a current member in good standing of the Bar in any state at the time of application.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related legal experience, preferably in the legal areas of contracts, employment, and/or higher education law.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, compiles records for, and timely responds to all Kentucky Open Records Act requests as well as subpoenas and other legal orders served on the University.
  • Provides legal counsel to University Administration.
  • Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned.
