About The Position

This position of Envoy will serve at the Kalamazoo Citadel corps as a spiritual leader and administrative partner, working closely with the Corps Officers to foster a vibrant worshipping community, oversee social service operations, and support the strategic and pastoral mission of The Salvation Army. This role requires a heart for ministry, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to holistic service.

Requirements

  • Appointed as an Envoy or eligible for appointment within The Salvation Army.
  • Demonstrated ability to preach, teach, and provide pastoral care.
  • Experience in program management, staff supervision, and administrative operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, social service protocols, and emergency response procedures.
  • Willingness to travel and serve flexibly in response to corps needs.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Ability to learn new computer programs and use technology in support of church growth
  • Must pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in Corps Council meetings; prepare agendas, record minutes, and follow up on action items.
  • Lead and coordinate adult Sunday school classes, including curriculum development and volunteer support.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Director to plan and implement youth programs that promote character development and spiritual growth.
  • Facilitate monthly Women's Ministries educational sessions, selecting relevant topics and materials.
  • Assist Corps Officers in teaching and mentoring senior soldiers, junior soldiers, and corps cadets as assigned.
  • Preach during scheduled services in alignment with the preaching calendar, delivering biblically sound and contextually relevant messages.
  • Conduct pastoral visitations to congregants in need, offering spiritual support and encouragement.
  • Partner with the Corps Sergeant-Major and Corps Officers to plan and lead worship services, ensuring meaningful and inclusive experiences.
  • Supervise the Social Services Department, providing leadership to the team.
  • Develop and maintain guidelines for non-utility assistance (e.g., rental aid, hotel vouchers, emergency requests).
  • Collaborate with Corps Officers to manage social services funding, ensuring responsible stewardship and alignment with community needs.
  • Attend and contribute to Advisory Board meetings, offering insight and support for corps initiatives.
  • Lead the Program Committee, guiding the development of outreach and fellowship activities.
  • Participate in EDS responses as assigned, maintaining readiness and training.
  • Serve as Incident Commander when designated, coordinating response efforts and liaising with external agencies.
  • Assess and address client needs during emergencies, acting as a bridge between The Salvation Army and community resources.
  • Support the annual Kettle Campaign through planning, promotion, and volunteer coordination.
  • Provide input on the corps budget, balancing ministry goals with financial realities.
  • Serve on the corps security alarm call list, responding to after-hours alerts as needed.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer, consistent with the role of a Corps Officer or Envoy.
