About The Position

Are you ready to take the next step in your career as a leader in special education and residential care? As the Assistant Coordinator of Residential Living, you will play a pivotal role in our residential cottages, ensuring a safe, supportive, and organized home environment for students with complex disabilities and visual impairments. Under the guidance of the Coordinator, you will bridge the gap between administrative and hands-on student support, leading a team of dedicated staff to ensure every student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) is brought to life.

Requirements

  • Experience: At least two (2) years of experience working with children with disabilities.
  • Education: An Associate’s degree is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, AED, and SafetyCare (crisis prevention) certifications.
  • Communication: Strong written and oral skills.
  • Reliability: A dependable, punctual, and flexible professional who can pivot as student needs or administrative priorities change.
  • Licensing: A valid driver’s license and a willingness to operate school vehicles, including chair cars.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus (and may be required depending on the specific program).

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Supervision
  • Empower Your Team: Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and yearly performance appraisals for Teaching Assistants and Awake Overnight staff.
  • Operational Excellence: Assist in monitoring staff performance, ensuring all shifts are compliant with policies and documentation is meticulous.
  • Consistent Care: Provide real-time support to staff during shifts to ensure program routines and student goals are implemented consistently as well as attend to the direct care, medical and behavioral needs of students in the residence.
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Be the Liaison: Act as a vital link between the residential cottage and our interdisciplinary teams, including health services, clinical staff, and educators.
  • Professional Reporting: Produce clear, professional reports and submit IEP documentation on schedule.
  • Student Advocacy
  • Problem Solving: Exercise sound judgment to manage the daily operations of the residence and solve challenges as they arise.
  • Human Rights: Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and respect for the rights of students and staff alike.
