About The Position

This position is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals, as well as ensuring timely clean-up of kitchen area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have an Alaska Driver’s license with a clean record.
  • One (1) years of experience in institutional-style cooking.
  • Current Food Handler Card or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge with food industry protocols and services.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to Alaska Native culture and lifestyle, with demonstrated experience working effectively with Alaska Native population.
  • Strong written, analytical, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and produce timely and accurate written reports.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as required for HIPAA, other regulations and organization matters.
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to report to work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, including outside contacts.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals and snacks, ensuring proper thawing techniques and requirements are met.
  • May assist with accountability and receipts for food purchases.
  • Follow time and sequence of cooking operations to meet meal-serving time lines.
  • Wash dishes and clean kitchen and kitchen equipment.
  • Assist with preparation of meals/snack trays and specialty foods as directed for special events.
  • Maintain kitchen facility in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Stock food items on appropriate shelves with accurate labeling.
  • Assist kitchen staff with maintaining relevant documentation in accordance with established standards.
  • Attend nutrition/diabetes health staff meetings to learn updated nutritional dietary habits.
  • Prepare and submit timesheet in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Drive delivery route to deliver meals to the Elders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
