Reporting to the Controller, Outdoors, the Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing the global internal controls structure for the Outdoors business unit and plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of the Company's financial statements. This role will be an enabler to implementing large process improvement projects. This position is designated hybrid reporting to our office in Deerfield, IL, at least 3 days per week (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday). We anticipate travel of 10-20%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • 7-10 years of total experience required, preferably including both public accounting (audit) and manufacturing industry.
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Formalize and communicate standard control procedures.
  • Ensure that an adequate system of internal controls is in place throughout the Outdoors business unit.
  • Educate all sites on requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404.
  • Work with sites to implement required controls, monitor ongoing compliance, and maintain documentation.
  • Act as key liaison for all audits conducted by Fortune Brands Internal Audit and our external auditors. Ensure implementation of their recommendations.
  • Ensure that the Outdoors business unit consolidated financial statements are prepared and reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Automate manual close processes.
  • Participate in company-wide month-end closing procedures.
  • Ensure that all transactions, assets, and liabilities are properly stated through review of account reconciliations and understanding of business transaction flows.
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting to parent company of actual financial results and required SEC disclosures.
  • Stay current on accounting statements and pronouncements and provide interpretation on their applicability to the Outdoors business unit.
  • Provide accounting oversight and guidance for foreign and domestic subsidiaries.
  • Lead a team of accounting professionals including completing year-end evaluations and having career development conversations year-round.
  • Recruit and train professional staff, communicate strategic initiatives, administer work expectations and regulations, and provide ongoing employee development.
  • Improve procurement controls.
  • Coordinate/Manage month-end closing meetings.
