About The Position

PURPOSE STATEMENT: The Assistant Controller is responsible for providing leadership and directing the corporate office’s accounting activities including general accounting, payroll accounting, various financial and statistical reporting, and other aspects of the accounting department. They are also responsible for oversight of the monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, account analysis, process improvements, and monthly closing entries, as well as supporting annual budget preparation and external audit / tax fulfillment. This position will oversee Corporate and SUD Division accounting staff and other general ledger activities of the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • Ten or more years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with experience in corporate accounting.
  • Proficient Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to maintain great attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong teamwork and technical skills are required.
  • Seven or more years of supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare and multi-entity experience is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics – Great Plains is a plus
  • Active CPA license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates timely closing of monthly financial records by managing month end close, as well as reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations for multiple lines of business.
  • Leads a team of highly engaged members through hiring, orienting, performance assessment and management, motivating, training, scheduling, and coaching to meet departmental goals and ensure effective departmental operation.
  • Streamlines, automates, maintains & improves processes to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency within the department and organization including contributing to ongoing optimization of the ERP system to meet internal and external stakeholder needs.
  • Provides financial information to operating management in a routine and timely manner ensuring accuracy in trends across the company.
  • Participates in financial audits and assists with compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory reporting deadlines.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Examples include but are not limited to the following: balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, and process narratives. Continue to monitor and evaluate control effectiveness and address any deficiencies or issues.
  • Assist with more complex financial areas, such as accounting for mergers & acquisitions, self-insurance, and corporate allocations.
  • Supports all accounting staff and serves as backup when needed
  • Other duties as assigned.
