About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance, and the use of strong internal controls, while also focusing on daily accounting activities, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial statements, and supporting audits. The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in supporting operational leaders with implementing internal controls, streamlining processes, and supporting the finance team to meet organizational goals. This full-time, Exempt, on-site position reports directly to the Controller at the Meriden, CT facility.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Proven work experience as an Assistant Controller, Accountant or similar role.
  • Possesses strong self-management skills.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and cost drivers.
  • Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for operations.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with emphasis on efficiency and automation.
  • High ethical standards and integrity in financial management.
  • Strong experience with ERP/accounting systems; SAP experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • 10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Assist in preparing accurate and timely financial statements and management reports.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation for annual audits.
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements, budgets and forecasts to support decision-making processes to align financial goals with operational objectives.
  • Formulate internal controls and policies to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Supervise accounting staff team, providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Partner with other departments to support financial decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with production and supply chain teams to analyze labor, material and overhead costs.
