About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Controller/Accounting Specialist to support our accounting team with daily accounting operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial data and seamless month-end closing processes within a highly Excel-driven environment. Manual reconciliations are routine and the position requires a high level of analytical skills. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic manufacturing setting and help strengthen our financial controls. This role will report directly to the CFO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in a corporate/industrial environment preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas).
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AIM financial/manufacturing system (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reconciliations manually (not fully automated).
  • Manufacturing accounting experience
  • Person should be a self-starter (motivated) – work independently without major supervision or oversight.
  • Very neat & organized
  • Able to multi-task in a fast past environment.
  • Strong understanding of the Michigan Sales & Use Tax guide / regulations (including complying with the Michigan Sales & Use Tax filing requirements).
  • Strong understanding of 1099 Misc & 1099 NEC federal tax forms.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily and monthly accounting tasks, including general ledger entries, accruals, and journal entries.
  • Prepare and maintain manual reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Analyze financial data and assist with resolving variances and discrepancies.
  • Work extensively with Microsoft Excel — building and maintain spreadsheets, pivot tables, and formulas.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash application as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather data and support departmental financial needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow established accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support audits by preparing schedules and responding to requests.
