The Assistant Controller is the key finance business partner to operations leadership; working with them on the annual budgeting process, setting annual standard costs, and working hand in hand to understand variances and adjust as needed to deliver objectives. They will use industry knowledge, soft skills and technical abilities to effectively support executive management and other departments in assessing and improving the company's financial position. The Assistant Controller is responsible for accuracy of inventory costs across all facilities within Wausau Supply. The successful candidate will excel in extracting strategic insights from complex data, guiding decision-making, and supporting company goals by working with various departments.

  • Lead the preparation and application of annual standard cost (material, labor and overhead rate calculations), working with the operations team on the annual budgeting process
  • Manage the overall capital budgeting and monthly review process, including advice on capital vs. expense and working with business segments to forecast project and cash flow timing
  • Month end close duties to include journal entries and preparing financial statements
  • With key operations leaders, implement variance reporting to help understand and drive improved performance of the business
  • Prepare and monitor manufacturing production efficiencies as well as spending performances
  • Perform additional variance analyses and reports as requested by management, manufacturing or other departments
  • Oversee general ledger position
  • Weekly review of production order variances to identify unusual variances and report root causes
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards, regulations and internal controls
  • Implement and improve accounting processes and procedures
  • Assist in the preparation for the external audit
  • Review of account reconciliations monthly
  • Responsible for maintenance of inventory costs at all facilities
  • Key strategic projects working with cross functional business teams
  • Monitor inventory items to ensure all have costs
  • Prepare inventory workpapers monthly
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, required
  • CPA preferred
  • ERP experience
  • Working knowledge of cost accounting and cost analysis, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft tools
  • Understanding of GAAP accounting processes and procedures
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
