About The Position

The Assistant Controller will work under the direction of the Company Controller and assist with the preparation of financial statements, budget reports, and internal control systems. The assistant controller will also be responsible for reconciling accounts, inventory, accounts payable and receivables as well as assisting with financial audits.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, plus 3+ years of relevant financial management and/or job cost construction experience.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting principles, methods, techniques, standards, and metrics.
  • Strong financial analysis capabilities, including discounted cash flow modeling and analysis.
  • Skill in examining and establishing proper financial operations and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong business and strategic leadership abilities.
  • Ability to translate business objectives into actionable, measurable initiatives.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory; identifying discrepancies, and reconciling accounts.
  • Overseeing the accounting for construction job activity including job billing, subcontract payments, and backlog, revenue and cost reviews.
  • Preparing and consolidating financial statements and reports.
  • Assisting with the development and evaluation of the annual budget and forecasts.
  • Assisting department leads and senior management in the development, analysis, and justification of Capital Expenditure (CapEx) requests.
  • Tracking and inputting Capture Plan initiatives and results.
  • Supporting the accounting department with all aspects of the general ledger.
  • Preparing and managing accounts using various software programs.
  • Preparing and assisting with audits.
  • Supporting the month end close process, including maintaining a month end check list, journal entries, reconciliations, inventory adjustments, and month end flash reports.
  • Reviewing GAAP schedules quarterly for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to Atlanta.
  • Maintaining and monitoring internal controls to protect company assets and ensure compliance with SOX, AMAT and South Division accounting policies, and internal procedures.
  • Track changes in accounting regulations and compliance standards supporting the development of policies and reports to ensure ongoing adherence.
  • Provide strong leadership and support AMAT's talent management initiatives through succession planning and professional development of the accounting personnel within the organization.
  • Maintaining good working relations with managers from all lines of business.
  • Providing training and backup support to accounting staff across other operating companies to ensure consistency in accounting practices, system usage and financial reporting.
  • Work on ad hoc projects as directed.
