About The Position

“At will” prosecuting attorney position (ATTI); potentially eligible for Career Prosecutor designation. This position is ideal for attorneys who want immediate and substantial courtroom experience while working in a supportive and collaborative environment. Personally, applicants should be independent, kind, curious, justice-minded, social, and ready to collaborate – everyone here at the office enjoys coming to work. Experience in criminal law is not necessary (but is always nice to have). Professionally, applicants should be comfortable speaking in public, being under pressure (for short periods of time), managing multiple cases, taking initiative, and applicants should definitely be comfortable interacting with the public – it’s even better if you actually love doing any of this stuff! This position represents the Commonwealth of Virginia and will primarily prosecute felonies, misdemeanors, and some traffic infractions, in all three of our courts (General District, Juvenile & Domestic, and Circuit Court). While work is performed under the general direction and leadership of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, the attorney must be decisive and able to exercise discretion based upon both law and common sense. Our office strives to do the right thing while serving the public, and we seek practical solutions to society’s rather complex issues. Most of our work needs to be done in the office or court, but we offer a flexible professional environment where the attorneys and staff have time to attend to their personal lives – through occasional remote work opportunities, a generous holiday and vacation schedule, and a general flexible outlook on the work/life balance. Requirements

Attorney must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in an office that values civility, kindness, initiative, creativity, humor, sound judgment, and skilled advocacy.
Due to the busy nature of courtroom work, the attorney must be able to work efficiently and independently.
Licensed to practice law in Virginia and a member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar.
