About The Position

The Assistant Commissioner at the Chicago Department of Aviation is responsible for managing and supervising the day-to-day operations of finance, payroll, inter-governmental affairs, and workforce development. This role involves collaborating with senior managers and the Executive Leadership Team to develop strategies and policies, overseeing complex staff projects, and providing leadership and guidance to department managers. The position requires strong multitasking abilities and the capacity to work independently and in teams, all while ensuring effective communication across various departments and agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public/Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Construction, Aviation Management, or a related field.
  • At least five years of work experience related to the responsibilities of the position, with two years in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment (STA).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise day-to-day operations of finance, payroll, inter-governmental affairs, and workforce development.
  • Collaborate with senior managers and the Executive Leadership Team to devise strategies and policies.
  • Direct the successful completion of high-level and complex staff projects and assignments.
  • Analyze reports and formulate improvements to the department's administrative workings.
  • Compile performance reports and present them to senior staff and executive management team.
  • Act as a specialized advisor to the Managing Deputy and the Commissioner.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to department managers.
  • Promote goodwill through team building and fostering collaborations.
  • Support the Managing Deputy Commissioner in monitoring communications between CDA staff and other departments and agencies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.
