This position reports to Collection Manager. This role requires some who is enthusiastic about making a difference. The Assistant Collection Manager engages in behaviors that engage team members to excel in their positions. They contribute to the team’s success by achieving negotiated personal service, Collections activity, delinquency goals, & records retentions. They oversee collections day to day functions, assists in the resolution of complex situations. Helps ensure that established policies, procedures, and legal requirements are followed. Coordinates activities to ensure that all subordinate areas of responsibility support Credit Union objectives. Trains, and appraises personnel. Requirements

  • Education – Associates degree or Minimum 60 college credits
  • Strong understanding of Credit Union collections, bankruptcy policies, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of related legal and regulatory standards, knowledge of collection practices.
  • Minimum of 3 years of collection experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in collections
  • Strong leadership and supervisory abilities.
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in stressful, high-pressure situations.
  • Strong analytical and negotiating skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and web-based applications

Responsibilities

  • Assist Collection Manager in planning, directing, and monitoring operations for Collection Department, ensuring goals and objectives are met with respect to collections.
  • Stays abreast of changes in the collection industry, practices and trends both locally and nationally including introducing new systems, work-flows, policies and procedures, to ensure The Credit Union remains on the leading edge of collections and member service.
  • Keeps management abreast of collection trends, delinquency ratio, and charge offs to minimize any potential losses to the Credit Union.
  • Provide recommendations for Collection and Charge-Off.
  • Plan, implement and execute collection strategies to improve collection efforts and reduce delinquency ratio.
  • Monitors and evaluates collections/recovery totals, work quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Represent credit union in court proceedings if applicable.
  • Assist Collection Manager in process improvements and delinquency review.
  • Executes stablished goals.
  • Assists in developing department procedures.
  • Conducts period review of procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and service are delivered.
  • Assume managerial duties in the absence of the manager.
  • Conduct yearly performance appraisals and monthly 1:1 meeting(s).
  • Track individual progress, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Monitors individual development and job performance of loan personnel to ensure quality of work and service to members.
  • Provide ongoing evaluation and assess performance of all direct reports.
  • Actively guide and coach their performance with monthly meetings.
  • Monitors, and evaluation work quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Provides coaching and training where needed.
  • Ensures that collection functions ae completed in accordance with established Credit Union policies and procedures.
  • Directs, coordinates, and schedules work.
  • Aids with complex, and sensitive collection activities.
  • Ensures that supply needs are met.
  • Ensures that collection actions are thoroughly documented.
  • Performs miscellaneous collection functions as required to include Sr. Collections, Collections, and Collection Support duties.
  • Maintains working knowledge of regulatory compliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that professional business relationships are established and maintained with members, the community, organizations, and vendors.
  • Effectively supervises department personnel, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Provides leadership to team members through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication.
  • Conducts staff meeting as requires.
  • Informs team f policy, procedural, and legal changes.
  • Discuss areas of improvement.
  • Ensures team is well trained, effective, and optimally used.
  • Identifies training needs implements appropriate training.
  • Conducts training sessions and cross trains as appropriate.
  • Conducts performance appraisals as requires in coordination with Collection Manager.
  • Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed.
  • Assists, supports, and serves team as needed.
  • Establishes and Maintains effective communication.
  • Assists, serves, and informs branches and other departments as needed.
  • Coordinates collection efforts with related departments.
  • Keeps Collection Manager informed of department operations and any significant problems.
  • Provides recommendations to improve collection processes and effectiveness to ensure integrity of department processes.
  • Assist Collection Manager as administrator for collection related systems.
  • Monitor and ensure all collection systems are fully functional.
  • Recommend new system to improve processes and efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with other internal departments to improve member experience.
  • Works in conjunction with the TLC and Indirect Lending Department to conduct reviews of the loan portfolio performance and recommends remedial action.
  • Complies with all Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) rules and regulations, in addition to Customer Identification Program (CIP).
  • Attends required annual BSA training and required compliance training.
  • Other duties assigned.
