About The Position

The Assistant Coach at Rogers High School supports the Head Coach in the planning, organization, and supervision of a high school interscholastic athletic program. The Assistant Coach plays a key role in fostering student-athlete development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic success while promoting the values and standards of Rogers High School, the Newport Public Schools, and the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL).

Requirements

Knowledge of the sport and fundamental coaching principles
Ability to work collaboratively with student-athletes, coaches, parents, and school personnel
Commitment to the educational mission of interscholastic athletics
Strong communication and organizational skills
Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
RIIL coaching certification requirements must be met

Nice To Haves

Prior playing or coaching experience preferred

Responsibilities

Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting practices, games, and team activities
Support instruction in sport-specific skills, strategies, and conditioning appropriate to the developmental level of student-athletes
Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices and contests, including locker room supervision as assigned
Reinforce team rules, school policies, and the Student-Athlete Code of Conduct
Promote positive sportsmanship, respect, and character development among student-athletes
Assist with game-day preparation, equipment management, and logistics
Communicate effectively with the Head Coach regarding athlete progress, concerns, and team needs
Support academic expectations and eligibility requirements for student-athletes
Model professional, ethical, and respectful behavior toward players, officials, opponents, and spectators
Comply with all RIIL rules, school policies, and district procedures
Complete required trainings, certifications, and meetings as directed by the Athletic Director
