About The Position

Gilroy Unified School District Assistant Coach Basic Function: The Assistant Coach helps supervise the specific sport’s program. All aspects of the program are to be conducted according to the principles of the CIF-CCS and GUSD Code of conduct for Inter-scholastic coaches regarding trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.

Requirements

  • Techniques used in guiding, motivating and supervising students
  • Skills utilized to maintain positive relationships with students and other adults
  • District and school rules and regulations.
  • Ability To: Supervise an assigned campus area
  • Speak clearly, provide information in an understandable manner and give directions to others
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, students, and parents
  • Assure student compliance with the policies and procedures of the school and District
  • Observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action
  • Current Resume
  • Letter of Introduction
  • (2) Current Letters of Recommendation
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certificates
  • Current TB clearance
  • Fingerprint clearance with GUSD
  • (All Coaches must be able to present valid CPR/AED and First Aid certificates and must be able to complete the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course-CA edition and the NFHS Concussion in Sports-What You Need To Know before season begins)

Responsibilities

  • Take direction from Head Coach and Admin Designee, and work with all paid and volunteer coaches to ensure adherence with Code of conduct for Interscholastic Coaches
  • Assist head coach in selection of players through fair tryout system
  • Assist in managing team preparation according to sport, its rules and capabilities of the athletes
  • Work with the Athletic Director and relevant school personnel to monitor student grades and attendance to ensure continued eligibility
  • Assist head coach in developing practice and competition scheduling in coordination with Athletic Director
  • On-time attendance is expected at all practices and competitions
  • All coaches must attend pre-and post-season league meetings.
  • Must have working knowledge of CIF/CCS/NFHS and GUSD rules that are relevant to their sport.
  • Assistant coaches are expected to respond to email and phone communication in a timely and professional fashion
  • Supervise an assigned campus area
