About The Position

KIPP Public Schools Northern California is seeking a part-time, seasonal Track & Field Coach to join our team. This role involves planning, organizing, and directing the assigned team, ensuring that athletes are instructed in the necessary skills and techniques for their development. The coach will be responsible for maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all participants, supervising athletes during practices and games, and modeling good sportsmanship. The position requires effective communication with students, parents, and the athletic department, as well as adherence to KIPP's policies and mission statement.

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of High School or Club Track & Field coaching experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Valid CA license (Class C) and current insurance coverage.
  • Safe driving record (will be asked to provide a DMV report).
  • Ability to follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of KIPP San Jose Collegiate.
  • Familiarity with the rules and regulations of the sports assigned to coach.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, and community members.
  • Ability to manage a class in a professional manner.
  • Flexible, reliable, punctual, professional, and has an enthusiastic approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively via email and phone.
  • Access to reliable transportation throughout the Bay Area.
  • Ability to work independently and within a small team.
  • Ability to coach athletes of different skill levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in coaching multiple sports.
  • Previous experience working in a school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct the particular and assigned team.
  • Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
  • Ensure that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
  • Plan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the particular sports program; inform the Athletic Department and participants of final selections.
  • Consult with the Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programs including scheduling dates for summer camps/practices.
  • Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Supervise athletes at all times during practices, transport to games, and until athletes have been picked up by guardians.
  • Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards the opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators, and community.

Benefits

  • Compensation of $19 an hour for a projected 143 hour season.
