About the position

The Assistant Coach at Ferris High School will play a crucial role in supporting the head coach in developing and implementing training programs for athletes. This position involves providing one-on-one instruction and feedback, planning game strategies, and monitoring athlete performance. The assistant coach will also coordinate logistics for practices and games, support athletes in their academic and personal development, and collaborate with other coaches and staff to plan team activities. Additionally, the role includes maintaining equipment, ensuring compliance with rules and policies, assisting in recruiting talented athletes, conducting scouting and analysis of opponents, and promoting a positive team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach in developing and implementing training programs
  • Provide one-on-one instruction and feedback to athletes
  • Help in planning and executing game strategies
  • Monitor and evaluate athlete performance
  • Coordinate logistics for practices and games
  • Support athletes in their academic and personal development
  • Collaborate with other coaches and staff to plan team activities
  • Maintain and manage equipment and supplies
  • Ensure compliance with all team, league, and educational institution rules and policies
  • Assist in recruiting and retaining talented athletes

  • Promote a positive and inclusive team environment
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions
  • Provide first aid and injury management when necessary
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the sport and coaching techniques

Requirements

  • Previous experience as an assistant coach or similar role
  • Advanced degree in sports management, kinesiology, or a related field
  • Certification in coaching from a recognized organization
  • Proven track record of success in coaching at the high school, collegiate, or professional level
  • Strong understanding of athletic performance analysis tools
  • Experience in recruiting and talent identification
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Familiarity with sports nutrition and fitness programs
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, physical education, or related field
  • Experience in coaching or playing the sport at a competitive level
  • Strong knowledge of the sport's rules, regulations, and strategies
  • Excellent leadership and motivational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Capacity to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Valid CPR and first aid certification
  • Clean driving record and the ability to travel as needed
  • Commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive team culture
