About The Position

To assist the FYHS team head coach in providing a positive, nurturing, growth-oriented experience for every player while teaching skills at a high level and creating a competitive, fun team experience.

Requirements

  • Experience in coaching and youth athletic development
  • IHSA Coaching Certifications (can be obtained after starting)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • The employee is required to stand; walk; handle athletic equipment.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Knowledge of email and communication platforms
  • Strong sense of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • To serve as a positive role model for all players and assistant coaches, and demonstrate respect for all players, coaches, referees, fans, and FYHS/HTC students, colleagues, and leadership at all times
  • To ensure the physical and emotional health and safety of all players
  • To attend all practices and games per schedule established by the Director of Athletics
  • To support head coach in carrying out his practice plans to ensure that practice time is used efficiently and effectively
  • To teach overall game understanding and individual skills
  • To create a positive, supportive, joyful, fun team atmosphere and culture
  • To help safeguard FYHS/HTC athletic equipment and distribute/gather equipment before and after practices and games (this may utilize player involvement at the coach’s discretion)
  • To help prepare practice facilities as needed (EG, arrive early to ensure everything is in place as needed and scan for any safety hazards)
  • To ride the team bus to road games if needed in order to ensure adequate staff supervision on bus
  • To adhere to the FYHS/HTC Code of Conduct and FYHS Student-Athlete Code of Conduct (“Expectation of Coaches” section) and demonstrate respect for FYHS/HTC religious, cultural, and academic norms and standards at all times (EG, no profanity)
  • To strictly adhere to FYHS communication policies regarding electronic communication with players, including team chat groups
