About The Position

The Assistant Coach - Basketball at Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) is responsible for supporting the head coach in developing a successful NJCAA Basketball program. This part-time position involves recruiting qualified students, planning practices, managing budgets, and fundraising, while also ensuring compliance with NJCAA regulations.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of basketball coaching or playing experience at the high school level
• Must be computer literate
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Willingness to work nights and weekends
• Knowledgeable of NJCAA regulations and committed to adhering to all NJCAA, VCCS, and institutional regulations
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to work under challenging physical conditions
• Ability to lift heavy items up to 50 pounds per OSHA standard

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in developing and maintaining a successful NJCAA Basketball program
• Recruit athletically and academically qualified students
• Retain students in the program
• Plan and conduct practices
• Manage fundraising and budget preparation
• Perform other secondary duties as assigned

Benefits

• Part-time position with a hiring range of $2000 per term (fall & spring)
