About the position

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Coach, Baseball. Lake Erie College is an NCAA Division II program that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC). The Assistant Coach, Baseball is responsible for duties as assigned by the head coach and will manage a secondary responsibility as defined.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a visible person to represent the College in a positive manner and to heighten the awareness of the institution to all of its constituents.
  • Serves as recruiter for the sport of baseball, identifying and evaluating potential students with that interest and organizing their recruitment in conjunction with the Office of Admissions.
  • Assists with organization of all aspects of the program, including coaching and management of facility, practice and team operations.
  • Serves as Pitching coach under the direction of the Head Coach.
  • Helps execute team fundraising efforts, including participation in camps and clinics.
  • Handles uniform and equipment maintenance and inventory.
  • Assists with student-athlete study table coverage and coordination.
  • Projects and promotes an inclusive education with the highest standards, where student-athletes are empowered to leave lives of personal significance and professional success as global citizens.
  • Scouts and evaluates potential recruits.
  • Works closely with the promotional and team fundraising efforts.
  • Helps promote visibility and awareness of the designated sport's program.
  • Handles laundry as prescribed by head coach.
  • Assists with athletes' study hall coverage and coordination.
  • Assists with all game setups and operations.
  • Operates within the mission of the College and athletics department to ensure a full NCAA DII student-athlete experience.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends and to travel for team practices, competition and scouting.
  • Assists with transportation of team in vans or bus, upon approval.
  • Follows all institutional, GMAC and NCAA regulations regarding baseball and athletics in general.
  • Other duties as assigned by Head Coach, Baseball or Director of Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in physical education, sports management, business or related field preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to recruit prospective student-athletes.
  • Prior NCAA DII Baseball playing or coaching experience preferred.
  • Must have strong team-building and management skills.
  • Growth and 'doer' mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.
  • Creative, strategic, thoughtful, and has a sense of humor.
  • Must have ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise respective staff, as well as understand the student-athletes' commitment to academics, is a must.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the community.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
